Parrot with basket, 1881 ca.

Original three-color woodcut inches 9,8 x 12,6 (mm 250 x 322)

Original three-colour silograph; published by Okura Magobe, Meiji period (1884); L. P. Roberts, A dictionnary of Japanese Artists, New York, 1976, p. 8.

The proof, consisting of two separate sheets, as usual, is of excellent quality. Printed in three colours, i.e. printed with three different silographic plates, one for each shade. In perfect condition and with uncut margins.

The Birds series, to which this work belongs, was printed in 1880 in Kyoto by Kōno Bairei, who produced these silographs in two shades of grey and a pale pink. The author composed numerous kachoga, Japanese compositions with flowers and birds, known for their essential elegance.
