Giorgia Oldano

Profile

Wildlife Artist (drawer)

Giorgia Oldano is a young Italian artist specialized in wildlife. She masters drawing and monotype.

In order to construct her paintings, the artist travels a lot around Italy and the world and her first inspiration is en plein air. Afterwards she photographs her subjects, and uses her pictures to remember animal details and proportions.

Her preferred medium is pencil, and her absolute master over it permeates through her artworks, conferring them a strong and unique identity.

From early on in her life, Giorgia Oldano used painting as a way to express herself. Now the artist does this by denouncing the slow disappearance of precious forms of life, by making the subjects of her paintings animal species that are facing extinction. This effect is achieved by capturing the gaze of these animals, revealing the emotions that arise when one engages with nature.

To translate her personal connection with nature to her paintings, in 2014 Giorgia decided to abandon color to devote herself to pencil drawings. This technique allowed her to evolve, giving her the opportunity to delve into a more accurate study of animals in their natural habitats.

In 2019 the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum acquired the work Mr and Mrs Punk, which became part of the permanent collection of the historic US institution.

She is represented by Salamon Fine Art, Milan.
